I've got 2 weeks of vacation coming up

Option 1 of actually going away fell through in May, and now Option 2 of going to London is also out, as all affordable hotels seem to be booked, due to Wimbledon. (As if I needed another reason to hate Tennis)

Looks like I'm going to do Option 3: Sit in front of the Computer and surf the net for two weeks. Let's hope that there is good ~~weather~~ wank.

Eurovision Song Contest 2013 - A Warning!

Today's the first semi final of the Eurovision Song Contest.

In the past years I used this spot to tell you why you should vote for the Swiss Song.
This year I will only give you one reason why you should not vote for Switzerland.

If you vote for the Swiss Entry to this years ESC you will be supporting
The Salvation Army

The six musicans are all members of the SA. They won the Swiss selection under the name of "Heilsarmee Band" (Salvation Army Band) wearing their typical uniforms.

Afterwards there was a shitstorm when the EBU told them that they could not perform at the ESC representing their sect because the rules don't allow any commercial,political and/or religious motives.
(One of the stupidest arguments presented over and over why there should be an exception of this rule for the SA was that Lordi where allowed to perform in their satanical costumes after all)

Now they are called Takasa. Officially this means "cleansing", but - Honi soit qui mal y pense - it can also be seen as an acronym for "The Artists known as Salvation Army"

So, however catchy the song "You and Me" may be, please don't vote for a homophobic, religious cult/sect

Krampus the Yule Lord (Brom) - Audio - 6/10

The Traitors of the Tower (Alison Weir) - Audio - 5/10

For me a good historical book if full of color and detail.
This here was just a short synopsis of facts, so I don't understand why it is sold as a novel, or as "bringing history alive". The non-fiction label would be far more fitting, but I guess it would sell less well.

The Horse Whisperer (Nicholas Evans) - Audio - 5/10

Not what I expected.
And a love story I couldn't believe.

SMS von letzter Nacht - Book 3 - Ich guck mal, ob du in der Küche liegst (Anna Koch & Axel Lilienblum) - 283 pages - 7/10

These kind of funny books usually get old very fast, but here they seem to be able to keep the quality up.

I guess I go back to keeping track here.

I'm just not sure what to do with the missing 2 years?

Do one giant list just with titles and ratings like I used to do at the end of a year, or do all the backdated individual reviews?

Getting insulted by Handymen for not having taken the curtain off the window at 9am. Lovely!

Even more so if you consider that they are making their way so slow through the building, they had to move their appointment three times (original appointment was Monday before last). And no, I don't think that those 10 seconds to remove the curtain will slow them down much more.

Neil Armstrong had rather bad timing with dying, because half the time you click on a link hoping for some interesting report on his life you find yourself reading about cycling and drugs. (And of course vice versa when you want to get up to date with Lance Armstrong's escapades)

Or perhaps it's just my hands being faster than my brain, to keep those things sorted out

- Mr. Bean and Voldemort at the Opening Ceremony
- Roger Federer's total fail at pretending to be happy about the Silver Medal
- The Swiss media writing article after article, trying - and failing - to pretend that Silver is the new Gold

The most surprising moment of the Games of course were the people who were actually surprised that swimmers pee into the Olympic pool. Seriously, how could anyone doubt that?!?

The Opening Ceremony of the Olympics had a homage to the inventor of the World Wide Web.
Almost everyone walking into the stadium was filming or making pictures with their new media devices.

But if you think that the Olympic experience would improve because of the Internet you are highly mistaken.

Four years ago, the official homepage of the Games had a special video portal, where you could watch live streams of all events on about 10 different channels.
Now they sold all those live stream rights to the individual TV stations, so a few select stations will be able to provide you everything. (NBC, BBC, ARD/ZDF)
But - of course - all those streams are region blocked, so if you don't live in the US, UK or Germany, you will once again only be able to see what your local station has bought the rights for. Pretty much like it was 10 or 20 years ago.

So I guess, all I'm going to see - thanks to the Swiss TV - will be lots of Soccer and Tennis *yawn*, with a few minutes of other *highlights* sprinkled in between.

(and yes, I have tried some proxies, but either both the BBC and ARD/ZDF portals are protected against those tricks, or the proxy provider block video that ain't YT)

Today I got a card from my goddaughter Luana from her holiday in Croatia!
Nice, right?

Sure, if you ignore the fact that I don't have a goddaughter called Luana, nor do I know anyone who has a child with that name (in case they forgot to tell me that I'm the godmother, because that happens all the time, right?)

Looks like some people will wonder what happened to that card, and than find out, that they looked up the name/address of the wrong person.
