I don't know Dr. Oliver, but I know that people are always ready to believe the worst of both Snape and Owen, even when it's not true. They've both had rough pasts and tend to lash out and protect themselves with sarcasm. They also have no patience for those who hide behind masks of virtue while carrying on their own lies and treachery.
