The Hunger Games Movie
Just came back from watching it this afternoon.
As always: Read the book, because it's better! (Surprise, surprise)
I was really looking forward to the movie after having seen the trailer.
Now the trailer shows mostly scenes from early on in the story, and that is one of the reasons why I am a bit disappointed with the movie.
Because as soon as the story leaves District 12, the movie became a bit too showy-flashy-poppy MTV-Generation for me - and not only for the Capitol (where it could have worked too show the difference between there and the districts) but also in the Arena.
Another thing that didn't work for me was how the actual part in the Arena was handled.
The fighting in the arena was reduced to a minimum and when shown it was very watered down.
Again there was a lot of cutting, mostly to show as little fighting/violence/killing as possible, and the only way to make it more obvious that this was done deliberately would have been to include "Ka-boom", "Paw" or more modern "Pawnd" screens a la the 60s Batman TV Show between cuts.
Perhaps it was done in an attempt to "think of the children" who may watch this, but then the movie has the same rating as Harry Potter/Lord of the Rings/Pirates of the Caribbean with their elaborate fight and battle scenes. (Actually the Swiss rating for Hunger Games is higher than for those other movies, but IMDB states the same US rating for them all)
